THE ANCESTORS BELOW FOUGHT IN THE REVOLUTION

SHADRACK PIERSON SR.
THOMAS PATE
JEREMIAH PATE
CAPT. JACOB MARTIN
JAMES HOAGLAND
PETER KLUNK
CHRISTIAN LESNETT
JOHN KEEVER/KEVER

This makes two or three Revolutionary Ancestors, each, for three of my grandparents. The exception is my grandfather, Jay B. Anderson. As his Andersons were in Scotland then, I am searching for any Patriots in his Gifford, Hockenbery and Clarkson lines.

SHADRACK PIERSON SR. was born in 1754 in Bromfield Parish, Culpepper County, Virginia, one of tripletts, Shadrack, Mesheck and Abednego.
Shadrack Pierson Sr. was in the 1st Virginia Regiment and also the 10th Virginia Regiment. I have copies of pay vouchers for him from May 1777 to November 1779.
Shadrack Pierson married Rachel Clinch a daughter of Jacob and Jean Clinch August 23, 1781 in Culpepper County, Virginia.
After the Revolution they moved to Bourbon County, Kentucky and then they moved to Scott County, Indiana. Rachel died in Scott County, Indiana and Shadrack married Mary George (sometimes known as Belamany George) in 1826. Shadrack died March 8, 1834 in Scott County and is buried in the Craig Cemetery.
Shad is said to have had scars on his feet from having them frozen at Valley Forge.
My husband and sons and grandson are descended from Shadrack Pierson Sr. as follows:

Shadrack Pierson Sr. and Rachel Clinch
Shadrack Pierson Jr. and Jane Eaton or Easton
Barton S. Pierson and Elizabeth Brashear
Viola Pierson and Walter Q. Knapp
Harry L. Knapp and Velma Martin
Roger Owen Knapp

THOMAS PATE was born about 1747 in Virginia (Hanover Co.?)
to Edward Pate and Martha Tinsley Pate. He served as Ensign in the Bedford County, Virginia Militia during the Revolution.
Sometime after the 1800 census, he joined his son Benjamin Allen Pate in Breckinridge County, Kentucky. Some believe his wife was Mary Allen and I believe she did not join him in Kentucky. On October 7, 1803 he wrote his will in Breckinridge County, Kentucky, but it was not brought into probate until after the death of his only son and child, Benjamin Allen Pate. The final probate was December 30, 1829.
I believe he actually died shortly after he wrote his will and that it was not brought to probate sooner because he wanted to free his slaves. There was only one mention of Thomas Pate in the Breckinridge County records after 1803 and that was around 1805, regarding a court case that had been dropped.
I joined DAR on Thomas Pate,, establishing a New Patriot in the process.
I descend from Thomas Pate as follows:

Thomas Pate and Mary (Allen)
Benjamin Allen Pate and Judith Pate
Allen Pate and Mary Oram
Benjamin Allen Pate and Permelia Elswick or Stokes
Mary Ann Pate and Thomas Nicholas Jackson
Mary E. Jackson and Jay B. Anderson
Charles Truman Anderson and Lois W. Kever

JEREMIAH PATE was born about 1745 in probably Hanover County, Virginia a son of Edward Pate and Martha Tinsley Pate.
During the Revolution he was a Capt. in the Bedford County, Virginia Militia. Jeremiah was a small planter in Bedford and Botetourt Counties in Virginia. From the only references for Jeremiah's wife, she is known as Mary or "Polly". Her last name could have been Minor, as they named a son Minor Pate.
Jeremiah wrote his will April 4, 1797 in Botetourt County, Virginia and it was probated in July 1797, his wife was not mentioned, so it is assumed she was deceased by then. He left 3 minor children, Minor, Amelia and Rhoda. His will said he wanted these minor children to have an education.
I am descended from Jeremiah Pate as follows:

Jeremiah Pate and Mary
Judith Pate (and her 1st cousin) Benjamin Allen Pate
Allen Pate and Mary Oram
Benjamin Allen Pate and Permelia Elswick or Stokes
Mary Ann Pate and Thomas Nicholas Jackson
Mary E. Jackson and Jay B. Anderson
Charles Truman Anderson and Lois W. Kever

JACOB MARTIN was born on September 13, 1742 in Piscataway, Middlesex County, New Jersey a son of Jonathon Martin and Dinah Pyatt. He served as Captain in the 2nd Establishment, Continental Line of New Jersey.
He married Elizabeth Dunham a daughter of Edmond Dunham and Dinah Fitz-Randolph on February 22, 1764 in Piscataway, New Jersey.
Jacob died May 1, 1830 in Jefferson County, Ohio and is buried in the Scamshorn Cemetery.
Jacob was a Judge of the Inferior Court of Common Pleas in New Jersey, and was an Associate Judge in Jefferson County, Ohio. He also helped to establish The 7th Day Baptist Church in Ohio, as his father-in-law, had in New Jersey.

Two items in New Jersey Colonial Documents "Newspaper Extracts" are attributed to Jacob Martin.
One is from The Pennsylvania Chronicle June 22-29, 1767. In which Jacob advertises for a run-away Irish Servant Man named Edward Godfrey, he would pay three pounds Reward.

The other was from The Pennsylvania Packet, May 6, 1777 in which as Captain Jacob Martin he will pay forty dollars for both or twenty dollars each for two deserters, James Carrol and Charles Hall.

Jacob Martin and Elizabeth Dunham
Elizabeth Martin and Aaron Hoagland Sr.

JAMES HOAGLAND was born about 1750, some sources say Amwell, New Jersey. His wife was Mary or "Marcy" Hooey. He died in 1833 in Harrison County, Ohio and is said to have been buried in Mount Hope Cemetery in Stock Township with a 2nd wife named Elizabeth. I have a picture of the stone, but the dates are 1756(8)-1838. Could the stone have been erected sometime after his death?
On May 26, 1778 he received a Commission as Lieutenent of the Yohogania County, Virginia Militia from Gov. Patrick Henry.
Yohogania was only a county in Virginia for about eleven years, and is now part of Pennsylvania, such as Washington, Allegheny, parts of Beaver, Butler, Westmorelan, and Fayette Counties in Pennsylvania. Before Virginia claimed this area, it was also part of Pennsylvania.
I descend from James Hoagland as follows:

James Hoagland and Marcy Hooey
Aaron Hoagland Sr. and Elizabeth Martin
Anna Hoagland and Jacob Kever
James Kever and Susan Hudspeth
